Markos Moulitsas Makes Tom Tancredo Walk Out Of MSNBC Interview (VIDEO)
Friday November 6, 2009 8:59 p.m.
Daily Kos founder Markos Moulitsas appeared on MSNBC's "The Ed Show" tonight with former Republican Colorado Congressman and anti-immigration nutbag Tom Tancredo to discuss health care reform.
Everything was going to plan until guest host David Shuster asked Tancredo if he considered the Veterans Administration a "threat to our freedom?"
Tancredo responded and was immediately called out by Moulitsas, a U.S. Army veteran, for being a staunch supporter of the Vietnam War while successfully requesting a draft deferment for depression.
Tancredo then did exactly what Moulitsas implied he'd done during Vietnam: ran away. Watch:

fu bush-Didn't Billy-Bob Clinton state that Iraq had wmd's? Didn't he send a cruise missile into Iraq? Didn't Billy-Bob send troops into Bosnia, bomb the heck out of it, with 250K casualties, in a nation-building effort? Didn't Biden vote for the funding for the Iraq war? hmmm...thought so. BO's handling of the terrorist attack at Ft. Hood while giving a speech to the Native Americans was truly worthy of the CiC, huh? "Let's give a shout out to all my minions!"
#94Capt-then why are their tears all over your keyboard? It's not from laughing, I'm certain.

There's no crying in blogging.

"#80-about the same as Joe'Mark My Words"Biden did."
Really? Biden criticized the anti-war crowd while getting deferments like the hypocrite Cheney? That's news to me. Give me proof if you can. Oh and the smae for Clinton and Obama. I really don;t remember them being cheerleaders for war while not fighting themselves. You are just full of facts you can;t back up aren't you?
No wonder you can;t understand Markos' point. Why don;t you go look up the word hypocrisy and come back once you're ready. We'll have a quiz.

poor danny.
You thiknk you can come around here and throw around "messiah" and use absurd logic. Now you whine about treating others like they treat you. Waaaaaa Go cry to your messiah Bush. Thanks for resurrecting the messiah spin. I'll use it too. It fits you.
Oh and read my post #82 again. I don't think you get it. No surprise.

I'm afraid I can't concur with your assessment of your own temperament, but perhaps you could look into this as an option for future discussions? It would certainly make others want to engage far more than how it stands at the moment.
#87 Not Desperate-7 seats in the Senate? Wow...that would be great! Dodd, Reid are gone...Blanche Lincoln perhaps so...Specter definitely so....But I predict >40 seats in the House...and have made that prediction months ago, although not here. We shall see...but the polling reports are already showing a mass exodus of moderates and indies towards conservatism....http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/p litics/mood_of_america/generic_congressional_ballot
#86 Polly-I treat others with the same "courtesy" they extend to me. If one wants to engage me in civil discourse, fine with me...but the personal attacks on me by f u bush and Capt are well documented. Perhaps you can direct your ire towards them. TIA
Dr. Hunt....you won't get more than 22 seats in the house next year, and maybe 7 senate seats.

@ Hunt,
You are one who is continually saying that the Democrats or Progressives or Air America (or whatever snide descriptive you are currently using) are discourteous in here and in life; however it seems to have escaped your own eyes that in almost every single post you have ever made, it will always be is composed of insult after insult, knock after knock and mocking reference. Well I, for one, am just bloody fed up with that tact and your continued hypocrisy.
Please, you have a beef? Then discuss it; if you don't like a policy or what was said, respond; but do so with the same civility you demand from others. Damn it, please GROW INTO the conversation and stop complaining about everything and everyone. You just might find that there could be an actual discussion in there somewhere.
.
#81-Plasma-nice post, but don't waste your time delivering facts to a cretin...they will argue the sky is green, if it makes them feel better about their lack of insight. They've never heard of a loophole. Dems continue to favor the entitlement mentality of the clueless and baseless. It was Ben Franklin who stated..."We should make the poor uncomfortable and kick them out of poverty." Obviously, the Dems don't agree with one of our forefathers. Pathetic.

Umm the bill explicitly states that only citizens and US nationals qualify. Read the bill.
If the method of verification is not adequate for CHIP and/or the health care bill then that needs to be changed. It does not imply that illegal aliens are covered or that the solution is to drop the plan. Nice try.
Oh the right wingers are so dense.
A discussion about a right wing politician shouting out antiwar critics while simultaneously avoiding serving in the same war is not a discussion of simply who served or not. It is a discussion of hypocrisy. If someone didn't serve but did not actively support a war and criticize those against it, then they have no relevance to the discussion.
So witness the stupidity here; an attempt to compare right wingers like W and Tancredo who opposed antiwar critics while not serving in a war zone themselves to liberal politicians who were not pro-war and were not critical of the antiwar crowd.
This lack of reasoning by the right is what people like Hannity and Rush thrive off of.
@ 68.f u bush2
Ummmm, wrong...
Under CHIP, Congress lowered verification standards to simply allow anyone who claimed to be a citizen, and who was otherwise income-eligible, to enroll in certain federal health care programs as long as that individual provided a name and Social Security number that matched.
As the Federation for American Immigration Reform reminded folks earlier this week, during debate over the CHIP bill, Sen. Jon Kyl (R-AZ) had the following to say with respect to Section 211 of the CHIP bill:
“This will likely increase the number of illegal immigrants… because it eliminates the current document verification to demonstrate that you are entitled to accept the benefits of the program…. In my state, all of the illegal immigrants--virtually all of the illegal immigrants have Social Security numbers. In fact, they have a lot of Social Security numbers…. So even if they are checked through the system, which this bill does not require, you would [not] catch them. All you have to do is to say: Here is a Social Security number. Now let me avail myself of the benefits.”

@ Capt. Schenck @ 1
I agree, it was fun watching Tommy bolt from the set after being reminded of his "heroism" during Vietnam. We do have to admit, however that Poppy Bush did serve honorably, unlike his son.
I'm from Virginia and I'd like to let everyone in on a little secret. The reason we always elect a governor who is in the opposing party of the current President is that it is nothing more than a practical joke to keep people arguing about trends. We just sit back and relax while the pundits argue about the supposed significance of the election. It's always a great show. And on behalf of my state I'd like to thank all the participants in the "discussion", because this has been by far the most entertaining reaction we've seen in the last 30 years!
@ 68. f u bush2
I hate not being able to fix typos. "your" should be "you're".
Furthermore, should the verification method as passed in the CHIP bill not be adequate when implemented, then the solution is to legislatively change the verification method, NOT drop all benefits of the healthcare bill. The verification process can be changed in the senate version if required.
@ 67.
drhunt1
Oh please
Sections 341 (b) (4) (A) and 341 (b) (4) (B) clearly state that only citizens or nationals of the US will be eligible. Your grasping at straws.
#66flubber-Why don't you READ the Bill? Oh, that's right...you're putting all your faith in that intellectual juggernaut, Nancy Pelosi.
"Section 341(b)(4)(C) of the House health care bill establishes the verification process required to
determine eligibility for the affordability credit for anyone claiming to be a U.S. citizen. This section
states that this determination will be made using Section 1902(ee) of the Social Security Act (“Act”).
When Congress enacted the lesser process of Section 1902(ee) to determine citizenship, Congress did
so with the express intent of bypassing any documentation requirements of Section 1903(x). Section
1902(ee) states that eligibility can be established “in lieu of requiring the individual to present
satisfactory documentary evidence of citizenship” simply by having a person claiming citizenship
provide a name and matching Social Security number (SSN). This information is then supposed to be
matched against records at the Social Security Administration (SSA).
This is problematic for a number of reasons. First, because many noncitizens have valid SSNs, a
name-SSN match is not definitive proof of “citizenship.” Second, it does not appear that 1902(ee)
expressly requires SSA to verify citizenship (only the name-SSN match), but, if SSA were required to
do so, SSA’s database cannot consistently confirm citizenship. Third, 1902(ee) does not require
presentment of any form of documentation confirming citizenship, or even a photo I.D. As a result,
someone who commits identity theft, using another person’s name and matching SSN, could
fraudulently obtain benefits under the House bill. Finally, 1902(ee) allows people to enroll in public
benefit programs even before their eligibility is determined. As a result, even an illegal alien who
falsely claims citizenship and gives a false name and SSN could, under 1902(ee), receive the
affordability credit and the resulting health coverage long before the no-match was ever discovered. If
the no-match was ever discovered, and the illegal alien disenrolled from the insurance plan, the illegal
alien could come back and repeat the process by giving another false name and SSN – in much the
same way as occurs under the I-9 employment process – and receive benefits again. In short, 1902(ee)
contains too many ways for ineligible persons to falsely claim citizenship in order to fraudulently
obtain benefits under H.R. 3962."
flubber-are you this inept that you can't research the subject prior to posting your drivel?
I noticed the right wingers are still perpetuating the lie about illegal aliens being covered.
@ 63. Captain John Schenck
I've noticed some familiar catch phrases in the little bit I read of his garbage. Looks like one or two other trolls we had here in the past. Probably one of the same or if not, probably getting lame talking points from the same source.
Try not to intimidate the whiny troll with your dominance. LOL
#62Capt-"it matters little..." LMAO! yeah...just pass the house, doesn't really matter that abortion funding was cut, or that illegal aliens still gain access, or that a person can be incarcerated if they choose not to purchase health insurance, or that TORT reform is never mentioned in the Bill, or that no one was allowed to actually read the Bill before a vote was taken...you really don't care, nor do you have ANY clue as to what this will mean in the long run...do you? Capt. Clueless and his band of flailing nabobs!
Yeah...and certainly don't read my posts...heaven forbid that you might actually learn something. But no matter...it's the strict definition of ignorance...the active ignoring of the subject matter, that exemplifies you as well as many here on this board. It's why I'm here...it's why I have graced you with my presence and intellect. No longer is this site a sole domain to those that have Bush Derangement Syndrome, and are having a difficult time defending Hope and Change. My predictions, my assertions, my incredibly well thought out dot connecting...will all be obvious to you here. Genius is pain, and my head is killing me. It's looking a LOT like 1993 all over again.

"Capt-the House Bill is, like Lindsey stated, DOA in the Senate. "
------------------
Irrelevant.
It matters little if the House bill is DOA in the Senate or not.
The hurdle was to get the bill passed by the House. Mission accomplished.
It is already a foregone conclusion, to those who've been paying attention, that the Senate bill that passes will be much different.
And then the battle begins.
58. Captain John Schenck
LOL
drdunce appears threatened by your "supposed dominance on this board".
The g0p are so whiny.
Capt-the House Bill is, like Lindsey stated, DOA in the Senate. Did you like the provision that no longer is health care a "right", but now mandated by the feds, and if you choose to carry no insurance, you could be fined 2% of your gross income, or $250K or serve jailtime? Great stuff, huh? When I read Bill, that provision was not in place, so the Dems snuck it in, in committee so that the public would not be able to read it. BRILLIANT! And how about Stupak? Did Pelosi sell her soul, and her uterus, (along with all other liberal women) to get the votes she so desperately needed? One wonders...but it even upset Maddow, so you KNOW that the left wingers are frothing. It's amazing to me that the Party that can't/won't determine when life begins, is so interested in determining when life ends...only the Dems can do that.
And just call me nostradamus...I post that you're in denial about your supposed domination on this board, much like Barney Frank is about his role in the financial crisis, and what is uncovered in the last few days? That Frank was unaware that his live-in lover was growing pot at Frank's residence. Frank was actually quoted "I'm not much of an outdoorsman, so I wouldn't recognize the plant". ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! LMAO! That's hysterical...and another feather in my cap of skirmishes won here at airAmerica. Really...when are you going to send the "A" team here to debate me...I'm growing weary of holding court with those that aren't skilled. You're a member of the Kos...send reinforcements. TIA
BO2012-you "heard" me? Interesting depiction of sensory input/source. It's also quite funny that you typify Capt's posts as being resfectful, while yours are not...funny, if not hypocritical. Perhaps it's not being tired as the reason for not being capable of "having capt's baby"...maybe it's the more distal position of your uterus? Give Nadya Suleman a call...I'm sure she could give you some helpful advice, and you have much in common, as I'm sure she voted similarly to yourself. Hope it helps.
#56 drdunce
Oh, the mid-mid-terms. I apologize for misreading the first time. I just figured you were politically educated enough to refer to them by their commonly-used name of "special elections".
But "mid-mid term elections". whatever you say.
Yeah, about those "mid-mid-term elections"...
Democrats added two more votes for health care reform.
And energy legislation.
And repealing DADT.
And so on.
Wasn't that cool? There was even one election where the fringe, rightwingnut Palin extremists opposing health care reform were pitted against a moderate Democrat publicly endorsing President Obama and stating his support for health care reform, and the moderate Democrat won that race to become the first Democrat to represent the district since the Civil War.
And guess what? It was set into motion from the day President Barack Hussein Obama was sworn into office, just as he decided to tap McHugh and put the seat into play.
Oh, and guess what else? That Democrat was one of the two votes over the 218 needed to pass health care reform through the House.
The community organizer in chief wins again.
While he's sprinting three steps ahead, you and your Party are busy running backwards.
Too funny.
drhunt: We heard you the 95th time you said "looks like 1993 all over again." The previous administration's modus operandi was that repeating something often enough makes it the truth. Note: It doesn't work. You're just looking like "1984."
Capt Schenck, I adore your arguements and want to have your baby, but I'm much too tired. Thanks for expressing your views cogently and respectfully (mostly).
f u bush, I see you all over the boards taking on right-wing nut jobs wherever you go. I salute you! Or perhaps there are many, many, many more f u bushes out there. I guess I'd be surprised if there weren't.
Unfortunately, we are p*ssing in the wind as it were, as the repos recognize nothing that isn't in the Right-Wing-Nut-Job Manifesto. Ask Michelle Bachmann or Tom Tancredo or John Boner, I mean Boehner. They'll tell you.
Capt-the mid, mid-terms are "old" news? LOL! That was just last week...old only in the sense that you would LOVE to forget the parallels between this year and 1993. I haven't been rebuked here, or on any of the other topics either...only in your sophmoric, condescending posts that completely fail to address my issues could believe that you have either the facts or the debate skills to match this conservative. Like I wrote before, you and Barney Frank have much in common. If you recall, of the $700B TARP funds set aside under Bush, only half was distributed during his term, with no strings attached. It wasn't until BO came into power that he and his legion of thieves began playing hardball with the Banks, forcing them to take government(taxpayer) bailout TARP money. Is it illegal? You bet. Just like placing the UAW ahead of primary bond holders in a BK judgement. 2010 looks like a rerun of 1994...doesn't it?
#44
You'll have to forgive our resident dittodolt for grasping at straws. He can't help himself.
Sitting in the irrelevant minority leaves him with little to do but reach around.
#43 drdunce
The news that came out of the midterms is no longer current, as that was a year ago.
But at the time, the news was that Democrats increased their 2006 majorities in 2008, riding the coattails of a President elected by the widest popular vote margin of any non-incumbent in US history.
Which is, of course, news that came before the news of Democrats further increasing their majority in 2009, by beating a fringe, wingnut Palinbot and electing a Democrat to a seat not represented by one since the Civil War.
Cheers.
#42 drdunce
What's interesting is watching you hop from topic to topic as facts chase you from post to post.
Have your baseless attack on Markos rebuffed? Defend the criminals of Iran-Contra!
Have your defense of criminals rebuffed? Blame Bush for failing to veto legislation!
Have your false claim about Bush vetoes rebuffed? Blame Obama for TARP!
Hop along now, wingnut.

"Yeah, I love the new mantra of "impeach Obama" from the few desperate folks that still claim to be repubs. As I recall, they said that dems clamoring for impeachment hearings for Bush were treasonous, disloyal, anti-American. Yet now it must be "patriotic" to want to impeach Obama. "

The disease being BDS (Barack Derangement Syndrome).
And it seems the only cure is time. More specifically, an Eight Year Wait.
:)=
Not- why don't you just come right out and state that the "demographics"=those that feel "entitled" to government handouts and subsidies outnumber those that actually work? The takers are outnumbered by the givers. You're wrong about asians, however, they are a conservative group, if I may write in generalities. Hispanics? They are a mixed bag. There are many in that group that are extremely conservative with strong catholic roots, so they don't take too kindly to the public funding of abortions. Certainly, there are many hispanics that are "on the dole", thanks to the corrupt Repubs and Dems that have no desire to close our southern borders. You also underestimate the youth movement in this country, as they get out of the colleges and universities where bleeding heart liberalism really exists, and begin to discover that our country has been ransacked not by the helpless, but the clueless. Their dreams of owning their own business shattered as the 'spread the wealth' mentality has sucked the lifeblood out of our economy, and with it, the free market entrepeneurships. Wasn't it Churchill who stated that if you're 20 and not a liberal, you have no heart, but over 40 and not a conservative, you have no brain? Go back and study carefully the words of our founding fathers...there you will find the checks and balances that kept excessive government intrusion from destroying our liberties. No business is too big to fail, and that includes big government. I'm sorry if you think my posts sound like talking points, but remember, I was "on to" the corruption in the Democratic Party LONG before the talking heads began reporting it. You dismiss the fact that Congress passed Bills before anyone had a chance to read them...in fact Reid with the SP, and Pelosi with the health care reform bill, purposely did NOT allow anyone to read it. According to Rasmussen Polls, 83% of America wants those Bills posted prior to Congress voting on them. Go figure...they actually demand transparency...something that was promised by BO during his campaign. What ever happened to that? The tide has turned...the indies are having serious voters' remorse, and BO fiddles while Rome burns...it's looking like 1993 all over again.
Wrong sir..and you refuse to acknowledge the demographic differences...do you sincerely believe that the growing black, asian, and hispanic populations will vote republican? College graduates also trend Democratic, and a higher percentage of high school students are attending college than ever before...it also seems that all of your arguments on this site are campaign speeches on behalf of Republicans...can you not formulate a coherent argument without using platitudes and buzzwords....I truly agree with some of your arguments, and unemployment will be a major issue...but don't forget who controlled the W.H. and both houses for almost a decade, this mess was left by your party, and people still will not trust it as long as they don't have health insurance, 401k declines etc. Also, supply side economics is what began the deficit spending cycle we've been in since the 1980's...and since the economy was contracting like crazy last september, and no one was spending money, what was the alternative?? Don't forget that the Great Depression began after the government's response to the 1929 crash was to contract on spending/lending, and let up because of the new deal and wwII when government accounted for over 30% of GDP....don't forget we also had growth this past quarter for the first time since the Bush/Cheney recession....one more thing, why are you so rude to everyone else on this site? Personal attacks on commenters and authors? You come off like a really mean person.
Not Desperate-Hoffman entered the race late, and didn't have the 'boots on the ground' to get his message out. He is a CPA...and I've never known an accountant that makes for a vibrant campaigner. But perhaps it's time that Americans rethink what would make a good politician...and that's not someone who can read a teleprompter, but one that's good at crunching numbers and balancing books...at the level of legislators and governors/presidents, that's a very good thing. You're correct...moderate republicans are not what this country needs. We need fiscally conservative politicians. And remember this too...rarely does the political pendulum swing to the center and stop...as far to one side as the pendulum swings in the spectrum of political discourse, it will usually swing that far to the other side in voter retaliation. The Dems over-reached, and BO's political capital is spent. Now the harsh reality surfaces that those qualities to be a good campaigner, are not the same values and characteristics to be a good President. The Middle East is a hotbed of fomenting problems for the world, and before all is said and done, you may reflect back that having a number of troops in that region was not necessarily a bad thing. Our economy is in the tank, and the public now recognizes the Stimulus Package for what it was and is. Jobs lost and an ever increasing unemployment rate will haunt the Dems mid-term and beyond. Supply-side economics will again be shown to be an effective means of reducing the unemployment rates while increasing the tax base, in spite of all the rhetoric from economic professors in their ivory towers waxing poetic about Keynesian macroeconomics. Through the omnibus and stimulus package, BO has certainly succeeded in 'spreading the wealth'. But after he is gone, our children will be left having to pay for those that are too lazy to offer to help rebuild this country, while the rest of us will roll up our sleeves, as we always do, and get back to the now more difficult task of helping them out. The huge sector of the independant voters out there, I believe, have already made up their minds...and it's looking like 1993 all over again.
Yes Dr.Hunt...you make a great point. But do not forget that the NJ and VA candidates ran on a moderate platform, and distanced themselves from Republicans as a whole, while the "astroturf" Hoffman with the creepy dead Bachman stare lost the district to a Democrat. The problem for you will be that if you do elect the moderate Republicans, you will again just be selling off your vote to corporate interests, and if you nominate a tea bagger, you will lose in most parts of the country. Again, keep in mind that demographics are changing, favoring the Democrats...and having Bush in office most certainly alienated millions away from the Republican brand as a whole...
#46-Not Desperate-Who stated that I was a Christian? And what fun is it to blog with those that totally share your view...that's what's so hysterical about this place, and what is so pathetic about Huffington and the DailyKos. No clear message for the GOP? Better review the results of the Governors' race in NJ and particularly Virginia. There's a LOT of time...Republican candidates will be challenged in the primaries by more conservative candidates which is a normal and healthy method to establish what principles are important. The People will decide. And by the time the Fall rolls around, the People will again take out their disenchantment, frustration and anger against those that did not listen...to those that called their efforts 'astroturf'...to those that didn't allow their congressional members time to read the Bills, let alone read them themselves. No...it's really looking like 1993 all over again.
