Real Christians often call themselves (especially in the last few years or so, "Judeo-Christians, meaning that they follow the teachings of the "True Jew" (referred to by the Apostle, John to Jesus' real followers). It might be easier if the radical right issued a list of groups, individuals and political philosophies they actually do like. Cut down on waste of time and anguish. It's a short list, I am sure. However, in my 57 years I have never heard anything like the hate speech generated by the radical right wing. These are dangerous, anti-American people. They would like to paint the center and left as un-American, but, in fact, the far right is gnawing at the foundations of democracy and liberty. It is shameful that moderate, slightly right-leaning Republicans are not more full-throated in their condemnation. I rank them with the average, law-abiding Muslim who will not denounce Al Quaeda. Both types believe - wrongly - that extremism will slither away on its own into the fetid mire from which it springs. As W.B. Yeats wrote in The Second Coming: "The best lack all conviction, while the worst are full of passionate intensity."

And yet, the government is respecting one religion, christianity, over any other. Look back to the reports of high-ranking military officers promoting fundamentalist christian teachings at places like the Air Force Academy. There were a number of cases where fundamentalist christians had access to the White House in the form of people like Gary Bauer and Tony Perkins and James Dobson that no other religion had. Billy Graham was for decades known as the president's preacher! Maybe it's time to live up to the Constitution, and have equal access for all other religions. Let's see a parade of other religious figures entering the White House to get quality time with the president...muslims, hindus, mormons, buddhists, satanists, jews, jainists, scientologists, etc. What, that sounds "wrong"? Well, it's what the Consitution advocates, and we live in a pluralistic society, with followers of many religions now living in this country. Either all religions get equal treatment under our government, as the Consitution states, or none should get any special treatment at all.

As long as we are quoting the bible. God said to love your neighbor. Also He said do unto others as you wish them to do unto you? The Constitution has a provision in it about separation of church and state. Why is it the Republicons always try to legislate from a religious aspect. The same goes for Gay Marriage. The laws were being passed that did not force any church to perform gay marriages. The law was passed for the states to perform and recognize the marriage of gays. The religious right needs to worry about their churches and quit trying to dictate their beliefs on everyone else. Now I know why Bill Maher has the opinion of religion he talks about. Why do we who are not of their church have to be bound by their beliefs and rules. That was why the United States was formed. The colonists left England for the purpose of religious freedom. The Founding Fathers established the Constitution with that in mind. That is why they ahave a section in it covering separation of church and state. I want the religious right out of my personal life.
