The Latest Failed Product from the RNC: The Internetz

Not that we ever anticipate that much from the Republican National Committee here at Air America, but after their failure to launch the new GOP.com, it looks like John McCain may now be in charge of the Republican party.

The site was unable to fully load for a majority of launch day, but when it was up and running, it included instructions on how to operate the website as well as a 404 Error Page in place of where “The Future of Republican Leadership” was supposed to be. Oops!!! (if it happens to our new site, we will claim GOP sabotage, natch. Schadenfreude's a one-way street.)

Additionally, RNC Chairman Michael Steele gave the new site a real promotional push when he went told Fox News that GOP.com is not “really even a website.” Umm – then what is it, Steele? A spaceship?

Even the Democratic National Committee was able to put up a new site for the RNC faster than the RNC could do it for itself. Ouch.

We at Air America know it’s hard to launch a new website – we are trying to do so ourselves – but sadly there are not enough #FAIL signs to go around to describe the newest disaster of the GOP – er, GOP.com.

But don’t take our word for it – check out some of the best reactions from folks around the Twitterverse:

@Fakemikesteele: Yo @DavidAll imma let you finish but the new GOP.com is the best website EVERRR.

@Baratunde: Is it me or does the new gop.com (http://gop.com) look hella communist?

@willmckinley: UPDATE: Michael Steele's "What Up?" blog on GOP.com to be ghostwritten by DJ Jazzy Jeff. / & edited by Flavor Flav

@MattOrtega: Really Saul? Can we get a comment from @DavidAll on the matter? RT @sanuzis: GOP.com launch 2day of beta site been fantastic

@markos: What I learned from GOP.com -- the GOP was really diverse in the 1800s.

@Mohner5 GOP.com is down for the count. That's about what you'd expect, wouldn't you? The Party of No internet connection.

@Shoq: But the time GOP.com loads, Sarah Palin will have cooked her Thanksgiving terradactyl. cc @AdamSerwer @sanuzis @lizzWinstead #p2

@sluggahjells: GOP.com is worse than the GOP right now. Remarkable.

1. Point taken with tech glitches, this site is (unfortunately) no different.

2. I think we are currently on those tubes, be they in a truck, on a skunk, or in a trunk.

4. The Civil Rights text is merely there to give them talking points so when they go on those infamous talk shows, they can claim "it has already been confirmed that..."

5. Let us all pray that this nation isn't already a One Party Country!

Well, first off, does AA really want to be throwing stones? I'm glad the article did make the point that these tech glitches happen to all of us.

Second, I suppose that Mr. Steele, in saying that GOP.com is not a website, was confused by his party line that it's a series of tubes, and that It's not like a truck that you can just throw stuff into. (Weak joke, but the series of tubes thing still makes me laugh.)

Third, yeah, that is one seriously commie flag red color scheme.

Fourth, I looked at the accomplishments page on GOP.com, which includes outlawing the Ku Klux Klan. Now, I had no idea that the Klan was illegal, what with it still being around - granted, as the laughing stock of the aryan supremecist community, but still, they're around - so is that a bit of wishful history? Given that the accomplishments section was full of civil rights stuff (or at least as far as I read - I didn't get to the 20th century), one must wonder about the strategy a bit. To sort of echo Fred, where are those Republicans now? That party, like the Democratic party, has changed a great deal over the years. Are they trying to alienate their current membership with their own history, or hoodwink folks into thinking that they have not become the preferred party of anti-civil libertarians?

I can only hope that the leadership, such as it is, is attempting to get the party away from the low-IQ lunatic fringe and the partisan victory at all costs crowd, and toward (back toward?) some reasonableness, so that this country does not become a one party country.

Wow...now I'll have to figure out how to navigate this site all over again. Hope it's not too complex....I do like the huge number of stories, though.

Just checked out GOP.com, most notable how many times the GOP face comes up as an African American....please stop trying so hard, it's like the bigot saying how many black and gay friends he has....seriously

Speaking of site redesigns, I'm liking the AA redesign! THe old "blue" one was horrible!

Hopefully the new site is more than just a cosmetic CSS makeover!

somebody needs to really go through the Accomplishments section and debunk that list.

They're taking credit for what liberals in the 1800s did. Yeah, sure, the Republican Party had streaks of liberalism when it was the party of the North, after all Abraham Lincoln WAS the more liberal candidate for President in 1860.

Point out everything on that list that conservatives of the day fought against and how they opposed progress. Everything they stood for then, they oppose now, whether it be investing in railroad and infrastructure or civil rights.
