Outside of the financial sector, its hard to find regular people who fully understand what derivatives, synthetics, and stock swaps really are. Because of this, financial firms on Wall Street were able to operate in their own little world of fraudulent financial instruments without any oversight or regulation. But like most things, their era of unprecedented profits and greed was too good to last, and the entire fake economy that they’d built amongst themselves came crashing down. Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. talks about how a few large banks managed to tank our economy with Matt Taibbi, political correspondent for Rolling Stone Magazine.

I couldn't find any place else to ask this question : Regarding the House health care bill for the insurance corporations ; If all Americans will be forced to pay insurance corporations , will they also pay for Medicare and Medicaid ? The two government insurance program ? The young have not had this burden in the past .

Pipefittergal,
Thank you for the recommendation of Klein's book. I also intend to hear her interviewed on Ring of Fire this weekend.

pipefittergal - Funny that you mention Naomi Klein because she'll be on this weekend's Ring of Fire. Not talking about The Shock Doctrine, but still a great interview about the state of global climate change (who is responsible, and who is paying the price.)

Mara5525....

If you really want to understand what is happening to us, read Naiomi Klein's "Shock Doctrine". I found it VERY well researched (the last...oh, about 1/4 of the book was citing references) and it was one of the most difficult books that I've ever read. I usually DEVOUR books....but this one I had to walk away from many times, both because I felt pissed off and helpless, and because I wanted to absorb what I had read.

I have come to the conclusion that this country will have to get to the point that Argentina was in during the late 1990's before we see any real change. The 'Powers That Be' will keep feeding us just enough to keep "us" divided, thus making it possible for the wealthy to continue raping the rest of us.

At times, I think that maybe it would be better to vote for the worst of the worst in order to "shock" people into looking after their own best interests. Let's just take this whole thing to the lowest common denominator in order to affect change. REAL change.

I don't like that idea, but I pretty much don't see "We The People" getting any smarter any time soon.

This is a GREAT interview!!!!! I learned so much from listening to it. It's all dark stuff, but Matt and RFK Jr., really know how to dissect the hideous mess that has become our financial system. It's well worth hearing.

Wall Street banks have always been nothing more than casinos but after they invented 401K , IRA , Mutual Fund , etc. they became crooks as well as casinos . This is a good article but the crooks will continue to be crooks as long as they can get away with it . With out the laws and the enforcement it will be business as usual .
