The Governator enters the Ring of Fire!
Bobby talks with Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger of California about his environmental leadership, life on the home front with Bobby's cousin Maria Shriver and whether Arnold really belongs in the Republican party.
Also on Fire:
David Brock of Media Matters on the mainstream media coverage of Michael Moore's film "Sicko"
Scott Horton of Harper's Magazine on the bribery conviction of former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman. Was his prosecution a political vendetta masterminded by Karl Rove?
Carl Pope of the Sierra Club, which wants P.F.O.A. listed as toxic. The chemical used in Teflon pans and microwave popcorn packaging is linked to birth defects.
Mike Gravel, the former Alaska senator who's using his underdog presidential campaign to push fellow candidates to end the war.
John Nichols of The Nation on the implications of Rupert Murdoch's bid for the Wall Street Journal.

It doesn't have to be a MOCK TRIAL of the bush crime family / Cheney PNAC cabal. Have accredited respected jurists and constitutional scholars conduct the tribunal, as done with the www.bushcommission.org that will result in a verdict with REAL GRAVITAS!!!

SSB
The Strategic Support Branch, or SSB, is (allegedly) a previously undisclosed clandestine military organization created by United States Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld. A spokesman for Rumsfeld acknowledged the unit's existence on January 24, 2005, and anonymous sources cited by the Associated Press said the unit originated when special forces commanders lacked needed interrogators during the U.S.-led invasion of Afghanistan in 2001.
It uses "reprogrammed" funds, without explicit congressional authority or appropriation. It has been known by several names since its start as Project Icon on April 25, 2002. The SSB operates technically as an arm of the Defense Intelligence Agency's nine-year-old Defense Human Intelligence Service—a department which until now has concentrated on managing military attachés assigned openly to U.S. embassies around the world. It is speculated that Rumsfeld founded this group to bypass the limitations of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).
August 20-21
North American Union (SPP) Conference
Under the pretense of the Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP) and cleverly disguised methods like the benign name "North American Union" comprised of Mexico, Canada and the United States have and will continue to use to change the face and the future of our North American continent. The upcoming, so-called SPP Conference in Montebello, Quebec from August 20-21 will bring the leaders of the three countries together to ‘ratify’ the SPP, about which their respective citizens know almost nothing. This is all part of a carefully laid out plan, and is no accident.

Hey all.
So Arnolds coming in here today? :coolhmm:
Ok, Ill go with he might not even supposed to be a republican. That would explain a lot of my own misunderstandings. Cause I hated Reagan, and I cant stand hearing Arnold compared to the "Jellybeaner" cause for one, Arnolds not decrepid. And two, No matter what jokes I ever told ranting on these blogs, I never have, and never think I ever could hear something as dishonest, and unintellegent come out of Schwarzenegger's mouth as the quote from Reagan regaurding the Criminalization of Marijuana,(FYI this is among the worst things of anything ever, that ever happend on Earth, to mankind, that we are still paying for as a species and global society even today)
-"If I ever had to fly, and the pilot had been drinking I would be able to see if he were drunk or not. And would know not to fly with him. But if the pilot had smoked(I think Reagan even used the word injested, but dont quote me on that) a marijuana cigarette, I wouldn't be able to tell"-
Cause I hear that and think,"Yeah? I think that's MY point dude. Mr Reagan sir. You couldnt tell. So I'm not totally convinced, it would matter.".
Seriosly. Let me site the tragic accident yesterday regaurding the 2 downed news helicopters. What, were they all "turning on", were they "tuning in"? Were they "sparking up" and "blazing the joint"? No, accidents happen. Werent watching where they were flying.
The joint never made little Jonny from the "Reefer Madness" videos crush his moms skull with a skillet. Meanwhile Bill Maher has mentioned this issue for years, and been comparatively non partisan adressing the subject honestly and publicly with those who are both being and not being his opposition politically. Besides that...I think it was the fact little Jonnys mom let some psycho neoconservative sexually repressed stepdad minister beat nightly and molest Jonny, I think. While she just pretended everything was fine, and turned the Ed Sullivan Show up a little louder..... Maybe not. Whoa, that was creepy. But its more likely than it being cause the kid got high.
So...oy,I guess. Maybe Arnold shouldn't even be a Republican. Weird.
The Economic of Marijuana Legalization Explained
( re: singsing0911 How do think we feel in NYC? ROF isn't on the AAR "Flagship" station anymore, really messes up my Caturday like you wouldn't believe.)
The below is x-posted from elsewhere, looking for some feedback on it.... thanks!
.................
The Economics Of Marijuana v. Tobacco, A Primer
The Propagnda War on Marijuana is not just driven by keeping the arrest rate at a 750,000+ a year level, there's a lot of money involved in it too, what with it being the largest cash crop in the United States of America.
Why that is is because the 'vig', if you will, the mark-up is insanely high, and I'd like to demonstrate this by comparing the cost of tobacco to that of marijuana.
I live in New York City, where thanks to the machinations of Mayor Mike, the price for a pack of cigarettes is an astronomical $7.50 a pack, which means my annual habit is around is just under $3K a year.
Or, more accurately, it was, since I found a way to legally cut that cost by over 75%.
I pay just about $1.00 a pack now.
The way I do it is that I found a little $10 dollar machine that makes filtered cigarettes that are indistinguishable from the Marllboros and Camel Filters that I used to buy daily.
Part of this is that I buy my tobacco in bulk now and I pay, (with all NYC taxes paid), just over $16 dollars a pound or about $1 dollar an ounce.
Of course, I need the filter tubes to make this work and they go for about $4.00 a carton, (again, with all NYC taxes paid), and it takes about 3 cartons per pound of tobacco.
Generally, I pay just about $30.00 for all these supplies, so my average cost per carton of cigarettes works out to about $10.00 a carton, or a buck a pack.
Now compare this with the retail street price of marijuana.
A quick search on Google, and questioning some people directly sets that price at $400.00 per ounce, pretty much nationwide in the USA.
So...
$400 * 16 = $6,400 for a pound of marijuana.
Which means that a pound of marijuana in the United States costs roughly 400 times what a pound of tobacco retails for.
Now, please bear in mind that tobacco is a notoriously difficult plant to grow successfully, but yet it's still commercially viable plant that can sell for $16.00 a pound.
Marijauna, on the other hand is incredibly easy to grow, but good luck trying to find anybody that wil sell you a pound of it for just under $20 dollars.
$6,400 a pound.
That's some mark-up for a plant that grows freely in the ground.
Now I'm in no way suggesting that the growers and dealers are in cahoots with the government in keeping it illegal, but if you had a business that generated that much profit, would you want to see it destroyed?
Didn't think so.
The above is what I consider to be the most compelling argument against it ever becoming legal, this is America, and there's just too much damn money on the table for that to ever happen.
And I don't buy the "legalize and tax it" argument either, because there is a) no way that you could tax it at the levels the Black, illicit market currently commands, and b) if it was legal, and you could simply grow it yourself or get it from friends and acquaintances that grew it, then why on earth would you pay an exorbitant retail tax on it?
All that being said, when they write the history of this time and place I have no doubt that they are going to shake their heads sadly at the ways our Government used this innocuous and harmless plant, which we humans have had a natural affinity for, for centuries, as first a means to erode and destroy our Civil Liberties, and then to make out-right War on its own people.

Savage Peace is the bold story of America in the watershed year of 1919, a startling time when the nation’s struggles eerily resembled ours today and when the intense clash of hope and fear defined modern America.
Written with the sweep of an epic novel and grounded in extensive research into contemporary documents, Savage Peace is a striking portrait of American democracy under stress. It is the extraordinary story of a time in our nation’s history when Americans worried about terrorism and were deeply divided over the issues of domestic spying, free speech, immigration and U.S. intervention abroad.

BTW:
That muscle head said he's "IN LOVE" with his party and that there can be disagreements that are not in lock step with the NEOCON FUERERS, on carbon credit trading for example, BUT that he would NEVER leave them.
So he's married to his party? No divorce possible even when his wife turns out to be an AX MURDERER, or abandons 60,000 families with FORMALDEHYDE in their TRAILERS?
What's the definition of sycophant? COGNITIVE DISSONANCE MASOCHISTIC OCD is a disease, RIGHT? Or is that what Cheney presented when he outed Plame and committed TREASON with permission from the shrub?
Take that Dumkoff!! lol
I just had to laugh until it hurt when I saw the word "dumkoff!" lol I am all highly entrenched in other intellectual endeavors and very serious today and i sure needed this laugh. BTW- our air america affiliate local bashes poor Ahnold all the time. He won't come clean with his conversations with Blackwater and 2 top environmentalists have resigned because they say Arnold is just a theatric when it comes to the environment. The local Sierra Club says there is no teeth in his AB32 Greenhouse emmissions bill. So now what do I do? I have always loved the Kennedys- but- I do not know how to fit Arnold into that same calibre of folk. Maria probably whips the heck out of him daily- good for her.....!
BROCKinator
If what I'm hearing about Hillary being a shoe in per Murdock, and that she will pull a Blair and abandon labor, then Bloomberg is the only one who can stand his ground against NEWS CORP. The problem is that what Bloomberg did to the MTA union doesn't bode well for "WE THE PEOPLE" either.
None the less, come to think of it, Bloomberg is the only viable "CENTRIST" alternative buyer for WSJ, RIGHT? Or can Sorros afford it too?
OK, so if he wants to stay Republican,
fine. They get Lieberman, we get Arnold.... I wonder if their fantasy football teams get allocated so dis-proportionatly. But, I'll take it. In D&D role playing, never be too quick to disregaurd the "chaotic goods" for the "lawful evils". Cause lawful evil is always evil, just using the law to achieve it. Chaotic good is sometimes a costly compramise and unpredictable, but overall idealically good. So this is, not bad.
PFOA
I'm really grateful for all the health-related info this show provides each week. Does anyone know how I could find out more about non-stick pans and PFOA? Basically, I want to know whether all non-stick pans are made with PFOA, or whether there are some that aren't. A quick web search for PFOA didn't help very much. Anyone know a website that has comprehensive info on this issue?
Thanks!
