Inadequate Health Care Among Many Challenges Facing Today's Veterans

"The Inside Story with Ana Marie Cox" 10.16.09

Monday October 19, 2009 11:36 a.m.

This week on "The Inside Story with Ana Marie Cox," Paul Rieckhoff, Executive Director and Founder of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, and one of GQ's most powerful individuals in Washington DC. Rieckhoff discuss the "week of the woman warrior," and the how other veterans groups have had trouble adapting to the new realities and challenges facing today's soldiers.  Among the challenges discussed this week: sexual assault and inadequate health care.

Also something to consider beyond the inherent tragedy of these statistics, is also the implications they pose for our national security.  Rieckhoff also weighs in on how the the latest generation of "warriors and veterans" views DADT differently and the utility and risks of the government's current dependence on outside contractors to complete missions like guarding the US Embassy in Kabul.  Equally important: the astoundingly good looks of Pete Hegseth, who works for Vets for Freedom and has incredible bone structure, just fyi.

Jim Geraghty, contributing editor at The National Review and Holly Bailey, White House corespondent for Newsweek are on the panel this week.  The three talk about Balloon Boy, NORAD, how do you define news, and how do you calculate whether such a balloon could have stayed aloft with such a heavy, and precious, payload?  Most importantly, though, how did Balloon Boy's not quite flight affect the Obama Administration's plan to convince residents of New Orleans that he still cares about them?  The three also talk about the best course for the president to take in helping his party with upcoming gubernatorial elections, especially the bell weather of Virginia.  Finally this week, Obama's imminent Afghanistan decision and the birds who talk to Mike Allen.

Wonder why Obama , blue dogs , centrists and Most Of the Progressive now ,,,do not want this type of coverage for Americans which in Canada covers ALL their citizens it they wish for $54 a month and less for the ones that are hardship cases....

Seems to be no difference in the republicans , democrats and their bosses the Global Empires.. They say money buys everything and ?our? democrats are a fine example of that..

In general, costs are paid through funding from income taxes though three provinces also impose a fixed monthly premium (e.g.,$54/month in British Columbia[10]) which may be waived or reduced for those on low incomes. There are no deductibles on basic health care and co-pays are extremely low or non-existent (supplemental insurance such as Fair Pharmacare may have deductibles, depending on income).
