Politics Geeks Unite! (Special Off-Year Election Special)

This week on "The Inside Story," host Ana Marie Cox reviews the recent elections New Jersey, New York, and Virginia with guests Dave Weigel of the Washington Independent, and Jim Geraghty blogger and editor for the National Review Online. First matter of business, how did the Hoffman campaign interpret their loss? Belatedly, considering that when the polls closed at 9pm, they were pretty certain they had it in the bag. Reasons no one should have been surprised by the loss: Hoffman wasn't from the district (described by Weigel as "like Alabama, but cold") and all the energy in this race was coming from the outside, too. Speaking of lackluster energy, the turnout in this election, especially among young voters, was astonishingly low - is this a particular concern for one party more than another? Also, Teaparty-ers, Jon Voight among them, storm the capitol on the middle of a Thursday.
In the second half of the show this week, the commonalities between political enthusiasts and Trekkers. Ethan Gilsdorf, author of Fantasy Freaks and Gaming Geeks: An Epic Quest for Reality Among Role Players, Online Gamers, and Other Dwellers of Imaginary Realms and Ana Marie Cox discuss the hypothetical overlap between interest in fantasy or science fiction and politics.
