It should come as a huge shock to realize that the United States of America stands alone as the only industrialized nation on the planet that doesn't consider health care to be a basic human right. The good ol' USA is the only first world country in the world in which a person can go bankrupt and lose everything he or she owns simply because he, she or a family member got sick. The United States of America, where compassion seems to be a very rare commodity.
Yes, I watched. Although I had many more things I probably would have enjoyed a whole lot more (a trip to the dentist, perhaps) than watch Sarah Palin in a softball interview by Oprah Winfrey, I knew today's kick-off of the book tour for the woman who couldn't be veep would be the topic of the day. We'd heard that the House of Representatives would be voting on HR 3962 - Affordable Health Care For America Act - tomorrow, sometime around 6pm. Or not... It's now looking like the vote may not happen tomorrow at all. Perhaps Sunday, or Monday, or Tuesday... The Obstructionist Party is trying to delay things, as usual.
