A Smart Look At Politics

Maine's Unlikely Gay Rights Advocate Discusses 'Question One' With Rachel Maddow (AUDIO)

The Maine Governor lays down a solid, constitutionally-based case for maintaing equal marriage rights in his state.

Friday October 30, 2009 6:08 a.m.

For Maine Governor John Baldacci, gay marriage wasn't originally an idea he was on board with. After supporting the concept of civil unions but rejecting equal marriage rights, Mr. Baldacci had a change of heart. Hearing story after story from his constituency and drawing on a proud Maine tradition of equality and free choice, he is now throwing all of his political muscle to back the "No on Question One" campaign.

Question One is a ballot initiative much like California's Proposition 8 in that it would revoke codified civil rights for the LGBT community. If the state's gay rights campaign is effective, Maine will become the first state to reinforce gay marriage law with a popular vote. The governor joins Rachel to tell how his mind was changed on the issue and what we can expect when voters take to the polls next Tuesday.

what's your thoughts for surveys for money online. One of my mates told me that it is real chance to make some cash just filling surveys for money online. Is it real or not. I'm not unusually sure. In internet there is many surveys sites which demands that it is possible to earn wealth working from from your house and just filling surveys. In my country there was few companies which in past offered take offline surveys for cash. In fact I used to few of them. Then one genuine friend told me that his brother sent him one online site called surveys for money
in fact curious somebody seen this site before cause he claims that it is realizable to get cash in that way. Maybe someone can tell here your thoughts about that. Thanks in advance and sorry for offtopic.

Somehow relying on the majority to guarantee the rights of a minority doesn't seem to work out so well. Here's my take on the issue:

One can only speculate how bad they must of been if they are no longer displayed.

Agree with PollyTics, right now all we can do is wait with crossed fingers. Hopefully this referendum will have better results than California's.

I'm confident that Maine WILL do the right thing here, however, I will still employ the use of crossed fingers ...just in case.

Being from Maine, I'm anxiously awaiting the upcoming vote. We just gotta win this one.

Good for Baldacci; I was so pleased to hear he voted against the Iraqi war. As he menitioned it was a tough time for politicians running for office; I'm glad he made the right choice; so many others voted for their own interests and let this country go to war.
