So far in 2009 we're really getting a better look at Indiana Republican Steve Buyer.  We've learned that despite appearances its pronounced "BOO-yur," not "BY-yur," and that the congressman believes smoking lettuce is equivalent to smoking cigarettes.  After that fun quote we learned about Rep. Buyer's history of donations given to him by tobacco giant RJ Reynolds.  Then it was time to hear about the congressman's unbelievable take on "Obamacare" and how it would hurt veterans.

These alone provided a fascinating character check sheet for Steve Buyer, but perhaps the best is just now coming to light.  The congressman's charitable organization the Frontier Foundation was purportedly founded to give scholarships to indiana kids.  One problem - not one scholarship has yet been awared in 6 years dispite the group raising over $800,000.

Rachel highlights an embarrassing and exposing CBS News interview with the congressman conducted on Wednesday by reporter Sheryl Attkisson.  You won't believe some of the "answers" the congressman gives about his "foundation."

I would like to know WHY is it that both rep. and dem. parties do not just write their version of a HEALTH CARE REFORM BILL and hold a special ELECTION ,and let the AMERICAN people decide by vote. instead of attempting to use slanted or bias polls gi.ve them an idea of what WE want. Those politicians need to bet REAL ,for real ,for real !

Fascinating. I'm sure you're equally concerned and disappointed about Evan Bayh's wife hauling in $2 million serving on corporate boards with interests before Evan's committee.

Nice work Rachel, Nobel has already been awarded, but you're in the running for hypocritical lesbian of the year...

This is not related, but important. The Republican National Committee purchased a rider covering abortions for their employees in 1991 and it is still in effect.
