Reagan Rant: Tragedy And Idiocy (AUDIO)
During his nightly rant, Ron Reagan talks about the tragedy at Fort Hood and the idiocy of the tea-baggers.
Friday November 6, 2009 6:52 p.m.
Two events tinged with madness took place virtually simultaneously yesterday. The first, a murder spree at Fort Hood in Killeen, Texas, was pure tragedy: we don’t yet know with any certainty what led Army psychiatrist Major Nidal Malik Hassan to open fire on fellow soldiers as they prepared for deployment to Iraq. Hassan, who was born and raised in Virginia, joined the Army right out of high school some twenty years ago; he was stationed for six years at Walter Reed hospital where he counseled returning vets suffering from post traumatic stress disorder. But, according to reports, Hassan became disenchanted with military life a few years ago after being subjected to anti-Muslim smears by fellow soldiers, and a cousin says he was “mortified” at the thought of his own upcoming deployment to Iraq.
But there are also reports of someone named Nidal Hassan posting messages on websites that are supportive of suicide bombings. And Lt. General Robert Cone, base spokesman for Fort Hood, confirmed accounts that, according to eyewitnesses, Hassan shouted “Allahu Akbar” (God is great) as he cut down 43 people, 12 of whom died.
That was all it took to get the usual suspects on the slavering far right into high ethnophobic dudgeon.
JOE PAGLIARULO: The name is—is a Muslim name. It is an Arab name. It is a name that does, in fact, in a post 9/11 world, raise questions immediately about terrorism. Raise questions immediately about someone hating the United States.
Apparently, for radio host Joe Pagliarulo, any word association game starting with an Arabic name leads to “hating America.” Never mind the millions of Muslim Americans living peaceably among their neighbors. Never mind the many Muslims serving their country honorably in the military where they are prized for their linguistic abilities and for being able to reach across difficult cultural divides. But Pagliarulo was hardly alone in leading the anti-Islamic parade. Here’s Gretchen Carlson this morning on “Fox and Friends.”
GRETCHEN CARLSON: Could it be that our own military is so politically correct right now—and I’m not denigrating them, I’m just saying—so politically correct about treatment of Muslim’s that they would allow this to go by?
Could it possibly be that a government institution like the military takes some pains not to discriminate on the basis of religion? Why, I just assumed that if they were going after gay soldiers they’d target the non-Christians as well.
Carlson’s co-host, Brian Kilmeade, took things a step farther in an entirely predictable direction.
BRIAN KILMEADE: Do you think it’s time for the military to have special debriefings of Muslim Army officers—anybody enlisted? Because if I’m going to be deployed in a foxhole; if I’m going to be sticking in an outpost, I got to know the guy next to me isn’t going to want to kill me.
First of all Brian, the closest you’ll ever get to a “foxhole” is burying a pet in the backyard. And, yeah, that’s just what this one unfortunate, still murky event should immediately trigger: a witch hunt in the nation’s military. While we’re at it, why not “special debriefings” for bigots who subject their fellow soldiers to religious slander?

@8 Wow! that's sneaky. Double Wow: "Do you disagree with Obama's efforts to increase abortions across the country?" Huh?
I received a rather disturbing survey by phone this evening. A recorded voice said, "This is Michael Reagan, Ronald Reagan's oldest son. Do you have a moment to take a survey?"
I wasn't paying much attention to the phone at first and I listen to Ron Reagan nearly everyday on the radio and what stuck in my head was Ron Reagan.
As I listened to the recording I immediately noticed it didn't sound like Ron Reagan but I thought it was the recording. The questions were entirely ridiculous were read quick and phrased as if you answered even close to a progressive response it would sound like you drowned kittens.
"Do you disagree with Obama's efforts to increase abortions across the country?"
"Do you support a loving marriage between one man and one woman?"
"Are you concerned with Obama's support for programs that promote homosexuality to our children?"
There were several more.
Some were convoluted and made to sound confusing. I stumbled to answer one that I must decide between killing seniors and liberty, or something that was written terribly. The machine warned me that I must answer only yes or no or the call or the call would be terminated immediately. They said the survey was sponsored by a nonpartisan group call ?Americans in Contact.org or something like that.
I completed the survey with the idea that a survey endorsed by Ron Reagan must have some positive purpose.
I was disturbed by how Ron Reagan would read such a bogus survey. Why would someone so highly respected throw a lot of credibility away on such propaganda/ Then it popped in my head that they said "Mike Reagan." I searched on Google, I didn't even realize Mike Reagan was a radio host also.
What a disappointing introduction to the Mike Reagan Show!
I can see how reasonable people can support a progressive or a conservative ideology, but dang, why do conservatives have to always rely on subterfuge or dishonesty in their fight against "socialism."
Good show, Ron. Yeah in the end it's just another random act of violence in a long string of violent acts whether by war shocked vets or just plain nuts. The sad part. for me. is that there were signs which were ignored. Maybe, like some said: the military would not let him off just because he was a muslim; you see, this political correctness can cut both ways. I believe his religion definitely factored into this, why is that such a no no. How many innocent Mulslims have been killed in these wars? Why wouldn't that play on his mind? If as has been reported by one of his family that someone left a diaper for his head, graffiti of "camel jockey" left somewhere and keying of his car, it would make him angry and add to a sense of islolation where he could brood and reflect on the high cost the Muslims of Iraq and Afganistan have paid and continue to pay. He was a time bomb and the thought of going to this war was enough for him to snap. The NYT has a timeline which helps to understand that all this did not happen overnight.
As Ron indicated all the facts are not in, so the above is just speculation. There would have to be a whole different set of circumstances to label this a "terrorist act".
I thought terrorism was an act against civilians, to terrorize them. This perhaps could be intended as an act of Jihad against a military. Either way, this definitely looks like an act of psychosis.
There can be no other explanation. The only way that seemingly intelligent people, like Ron Reagan, can be leftists is to be intellectually dishonest. If you're intelligent and have been successful in other endeavors, you must have the ability to take information and interpret it honestly, otherwise you won't be successful. So there's no way that Ron Reagan and his guests can't know that they're lying to themselves and to their broadcast audience.
Case in point is Ron's recent interview of former weapons inspector Scott Ritter. During the interview, Scott and Ron were pontificating on how our forces should leave Afghanistan, since we're alledgedly worsening the problem there and can't win anyhow. As part of his justification, Ritter said that none of the hijackers came from Afghanistan, so why are we still there? What a totally ridiculuous, dishonest, and kindergarten-like response! This is the sort of response we'd expect to hear from tinpot dictators, like Fidel Castro or Hugo Chavez - not an American and especially not one that served in the military.
Ritter and Reagan know why we're in Afghanistan and why we attacked that country about 9 years ago. We did so because most, if not all, of the 19 hijackers received training from Al Qaeda in AFGHANISTAN at bases run in AFGHANISTAN. So, our intent in attacking Afghanistan and occupying it was threefold. It was to destroy these bases; remove the Taliban, since they were harboring Al Qaeda; and keep the Taliban from returning, since they'd most likely bring Al Qaeda or other terrorist organizations back with them.
It's that simple, and doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand it. But to professional propagandists, like Ron Reagan and Scott Ritter, facts - especially obvious ones - are the enemy and must be hidden or left out through any means necessary, including obfuscation, lying by omission, or just outright lying.

There is nothing in the US Constitution that allows the government to fine you for not buying insurance. The government also have no right to set up CERs or Councils which are made up of appointees who will decide who gets what care. (Already in the stimulus bill)
People who work for utopian socialists like Nazi sympathizer Geroge Soros, the major owner/funder of the Democrat party, and whose major office holders recommend putting sterilants in the water or adulate publicly a mass murderer like Chairman Mao, ought not to cast the first stone eh?
Surely I expect these factual statements to be censored.
But perhaps they will stick long enough to wake some people up.
John,
Whether or not he shot all of those people or not is immaterial. I was his actions in the first place that started the whole thing and lead to so many innocent people to die or be wounded.
Time will tell, but I suspect that when all the facts are in, if all the facts get in. we are going to learn that Major Hassan at didn't shoot all the victims Fort Hood . I think it would take a really efficient shooter to kill or wound as many as were shot in this incident and that what really happened was that many of the casualties were caused by MPs or police opening fire on people they thought were shooting, but who were in fact other MPs. Panic. Fear. Lack of fire discipline.
Time will tell.
