Misconception about Obamma
My 62 year old mother just realized last week that her sister and her family harbor deep-seated bigotry towards Barack. She proudly wore an Obamma button to a family gathering and was shocked when her sister questioned why she would vote for a "black". My mother, to her credit, defended her position stating Barack represented many of the positions she supported. Her sister then retorted that he was part of a conspiracy of "the blacks to take over the world."
Now granted, this conversation took place in Indiana where I have heard is the birthplace of the KKK. Not to excuse this ignorance, as these are educated people, but it does speak to the entrenched bigotry that exists.

By camoore68May 12, 2008 - 12:21pmMcCain, Cheney - Socialized hypocrites?
While John McCain criticizes Obama and Clinton for their 'socialized medicine' advocacy, one must ask whether or not he is a beneficiary of Medicare or has taken advantage of VA benefits when he returned from captivity in Vietnam. We might also wonder if Dick Cheney has been taking advantage of Medicare during his many trips to the hospital for heart-related problems. It must be that it's "socialized medicine" if it's for the other guy, but it's just fine for self-reliant people like me.

By hornmanMay 12, 2008 - 2:12pmThat's been called "Cheneycare"
The modern medicine the taxpayers have made available for government workers and elected officials should be the standard of care for all Americans. If it's good enough for Dick Cheney, it's good enough for me. Give all of us Cheneycare too!

By noraMay 12, 2008 - 2:58pmInteresting read on how Hillary went wrong...
This from an LATIMES article about human potential scholar/philosopher Jean Houston and her view on Hillary Clinton primary performance:
"Ironically, Clinton's problem today, Houston said, may be that Obama has given better voice to that new pattern of possibility -- that he embodies a more female, inclusive approach to problem-solving, while Clinton has become mired in proving herself capable of emulating the male model, which requires combat and the demonization of enemies."
[end excerpt]
Sounds on target to me!
Here's more:
"Houston believes Obama is on the verge of winning the nomination partly because he has promoted himself as the embodiment of a new kind of politics, and partly because Clinton has had trouble portraying her authentic self."
"It's a shame the warfare model is still there," Houston said. "If she could have moved to the next level, she would be the next president."

By noraMay 12, 2008 - 2:52pminclusiveness
Cheney's idea of an inclusive government is to include the oil, coal, nuclear industries in deciding on energy policy. I see that the main purpose of a government in a capitalist society is to conteract the influence of the industrialists. Therefore my ideal inclusive government is one that asks for and obtains input from each of its citizens equally, where a welfare mother from Compton is listened to with the same attention as the CEO of Shell. And, because there are so many more welfare mothers than there are oil executives, meeting the needs of welfare recipients is given higher priority.
Obama has said repeatedly that he will include corporations in writing legislation. Including the CEO's in writing the legislation that will regulate them is not the kind of inclusiveness that I want.
