One Thousand reasons to impeach

Here is a link to 1423 reasons (and counting) the Bush Administration has failed the American public. Many of these reasons are not a liberal or conservative issue: many relate to this administration's egregious incompetency and active deceit, which are issues that should infuriate all Americans. Even if you find some the reasons unconvincing, keep in mind that there are still about 1400 reasons that you may not be disputing. Also some of the reasons, such as #130 (as of the time of this e-mail. It's entitled "Bush sets aside 750 laws" (another example is #165, entitled "Big Lies")) could be counted as multiple reasons. We have impeached or threatened to impeach presidents for far fewer and far less egregious reasons than many of the reasons provided.

If Bush and Cheney stay in office until January 20, 2009 we will have endured 2922 days of their rule, which means if nothing else is added to the list, they fail this country almost every other day they are in office. The web site does not include Bush’s latest egregious act – the Libby commutation.

Peace All!

Bar-B-Que is open, feel free to Liberally burn-em if Ya brung-em.

BUSH TO FRANCE: TAKE YOUR LIBERTÉ AND SHOVE IT

On this Independence Day, I am reminded of the pro-war France bashers. What they lack in loyalty, they make up for in shear ignorance. Sure, France supported our independence when we had that little spat with the Brits known as the Revolutionary War, but what have they done for us lately? So change French Fries (a Belgian dish originally) to Freedom Fries. Get rid of French Toast (the 1724 reinvention of Albany, NY tavern owner Joseph French). Let’s replace the Statue of Liberté (a gift from the French) with a sculpture of Laura Bush. And while we’re at it, down with démocratie. (Yes, we get the word from French.) Dubya doesn’t much have a hankering for democracy, anyway. Where would he be today if America had majority rule?

Thanks

Lauren and Chris

Fair Tax question

I'm persuaded by the Fair Tax plan except when it comes to the comment Thom made about the expenditures on investment. Anyone have any information on how investment spending would be accounted for in a Fair Tax plan?

Made in America

I wonder, if people had full iformation and real choices -- if we knew when goods were made in America and we had access to goods that were made in America -- what would we choose to buy. I persoally would rather spend a few more dollars on goods made here, knowing what I know, than on goods made abroad. But where are those goods? They're not as available as they used to be.

I hope there would be a "Farmers Market" effect -- people flock to those markets to support their local farmers and businesses. I think we would flock to American businesses, too, if we could.

Doesn't one have to be able to form a sentence before one can commute one?

Your first guest Sandy

Your first guest Sandy Bourne extols the virtues of the free market and argues that through our consumer choices the best interests of society will be met in the way of lower prices or better products to choose from if government stay out of the affairs of so called free enterprise.  The premise that she is operating under is a false one and is unfortunatly ever pervasive in the discourse that we engage in with conservatives so often.  That is the idea that we reallly have a choice at all.  If consumers have so much power to change abuses in the market then why is gasoline so extraordinarily expensive?  Surely we would have remedied this by now if we really had any say in determining these monolithic coprorate entities.   The freedom that she and others speak of is a false choice.  We are for all practical purposes one large captive market for the unrestrained corporate raiders to plunder with the aid and aquiesence of the government.  We need to frame this debate in terms of economic freedom, having the means through a living wage to be able to make informed choices.  Having the information we need to make those choices through a media that has public service as its priority rather that profit.  And finally having a government that is free of corporate influence though election campaign funding and lobbying and is ultimately behest to we the people.

Crazy no More!

I made an effort to catch Mike Gravel, "The Crazy Guy",  on your show today, and I would like to share a Gravel quote I found on "Suburban Guerrilla":

"The inability to admit a mistake and assume responsibility is not just a morally bankrupt way to walk through life; it is a dangerous and deadly way to lead a nation. When I am President, I will open up all secret files relating the Iraq war  and expose all officials who lied to the public while promoting it. (That's right, Dick, your files too.) My Justice Department will prosecute everyone who lied under oath or ripped off the Iraq reconstruction effort. And I will pardon to no one."

Mike Gravel -- Crazy No More

And you just heard that from a Kucinichista browncoat.

Peace All!

Thank you Thom for coming in today to do a live show... and thank all Ya-All support staff for coming in to make Thom's show what it is.
Peace

Mr Cheney, here is a quote I believe applies to you

"Bury it//I wont let you bury it//I wont let you mutter it//I wont let you smother it//Our time is running out"

Fairness

While I don't believe we need a return to the "Fairness Doctrine" I do believe we need to add one element of "fairness" to broadcasting.

In light of the recent Supreme Court ruling that shot down a key element of McCain-Feingold, corporate interests will have unfettered access to broadcast media during the run-up to elections.  "Issue ads" directed towards candidates will no longer have any restrictions placed upon them.  Made under the guise of a protection of "free" speech, this decision only protects $$$ speech.

Here's where we need an ounce of fairness.  If broadcasters are going to accept millions for "issue ads", they should be required to provide truly free airtime for responses to those ads (from all participating candidates, so we don't fall victim to straw-man issues).  Hopefully, that would: 1) limit a broadcast network's likelyhood of accepting these ads, and 2) allow appropriate responses in case they do.
