Unfortunately,
anything Dan Rather saya now will be poo-pooed because of his role in the documents concernng Bush being AWOL.
terrabyte1 poo-poo on you. The AWOL data was AUTHENTICATED TRUE!
This year’s winner of a top award in the profession (the Fred Friendly First Amendment Award) which is named for a giant of the profession, Fred Friendly, former president of CBS.
Friendly—a real person, also an icon in network television—spoke the big language of professional conscience, which he inherited from the most mythic figure of all in network news, Edward R. Murrow of CBS, who passed the baton to Walter Cronkite, who gave it to Dan Rather, who was in the audience at the Metropolitan Club, along with Ted Koppel and many others they call their peers.

Do we really believe there are only a few people in this country of 300,000,000 with the ability to be a Dan Rather? I’m sure Dan Rather thinks he is special, but I see Dan Rather as no different from Tide laundry soap: he is a brand, and as such, doesn’t have any special insight into the world or greater logical abilities or intelligence than the rest of us. I am not interested in being lectured on how I should think by a Tide soap box. Likewise, I really resent it when a Feminine Hygiene Brand like Ted Koppel does it.
I know that Sam Donaldson long ago became convinced of his superiority over not only mere mortals, but also over his fellow journalists. Too many journalists who have become brands are as misguided as the many Hollywood stars who imagine their popularity and enormous salaries confer upon them expertise in environmentalism or war or oppression or some other issue.

Olbermann Lays Out Right-Wing Conspiracy Behind Faked Memos
MSNBC's Keith Olbermann sees a grand conspiracy in "how the documents came to be so quickly and thoroughly refuted on a right-wing Web site not two hours after they were first revealed on CBS." Picking up on how a FreeRepublic.com poster, "Buckhead," had first suggested a 1970s typewriter could not have produced the memo showcased by 60 Minutes, on Monday's Countdown Olbermann ran through the blogger's resume and concluded, ever so ominously: "So the Killian documents come out and are almost immediately questioned by a lawyer with Republican ties and are distributed to other news organizations without comment by the White House and they suddenly have one of their principal endorsers retract his endorsement. How many rats do you smell?"
http://www.mediaresearch.org/cyberalerts/2004/cyb20040914.asp#2
Additional questions about the authenticity of the CBS documents have been aired by an array of forensic experts who have said that typographical elements -- such as a curved apostrophe, a raised or superscript "th" in notations such as "the 111th," and proportional spacing -- were not widely available on typewriters in the early 1970s, when the documents are dated.
The elements were available on an IBM Selectric Composer, an enhanced electric typewriter in use at the time. Documents produced with the typewriter reviewed by the Globe have proportional spacing and the curved apostrophe.
A Globe analysis of uncontested records in Bush's military file showed that he did not show up for required drills for extended periods of time and did not fulfill his commitment to the Guard, although he was honorably discharged.

I'm not arguing facts,
I'm just saying that if you ask the man-in-the-street, all he remembers is that Dan left under a cloud related to faked documents.
Those of us who listen to Air America or read DailyKOS sometimes forget that the typical American doesn't follow politics and has only a superficial understanding of the news. Bush's scandals have failed to gain much traction because they are, for the most part, fairly complicated. Everybody understood that Bill Clinton got a BJ but most people can't follow the Plame and Gonzo scandals.
terrabyte1: "the man-in-the-street" aint all BONEHEADS
They may be thicker than the average bear, but their not completely oblivious. Since Fahrenheit 9/11 and SickO penetration has been substancial and the Kos'acks have attracted the full field of primary candidates thus breaking all press coverage barriers, getting the truth about AWOL vs. Swiftboat should not be all that difficult.
AAR had MTA billboards that rivaled HOT97 advertising at one point in NYC. The road tours that Frankin did certainly generated buzz. If the FISA bullshit hasn't got their attention and illustrated the impotence of their news outlets, who should have warned them that this was coming, then they are brain dead.
"the man-in-the-street" may be as dense as Archie Bunker but after an OCCUPATION with endless casualties that is longer than WW2, they know something is rotten in Denmark The fact the CINC was AWOL during Vietnam and this is a quagmire that is destined to DWARF Vietnam should be comprehensible to "the man-in-the-street"
This is a good opportunity for Rather to rehash his AWOL report, or perhaps during the IMPEACHMENT would be a better time. YA THINK?
Bush AWOL - yep!
Personally, I think the documents he recieved were in fact correct. I believe they were downloaded from a tape and printed which is why the print characters were different. However, the Bush machine - the people who clean up after the politically and wealthy affluent family - did their job in cleaining up dirty diapers related to W and other family members. I still think he was on a multi-day drunk when he recieved that ticket that came out and forgot to mention it to the clean-up squad.
Dan Rather just got caught in the trap and with the new and additional 'clout' that the TV station was being throttled by all sorts of supporters and 'friends' of Bush.
Just as others had been scared into keeping their mouths shut about Renquist, there was a concerted effort to shut up Dan Rather.
Kind of like Coultergiest having an FBI ex-boyfriend get the charges dropped against her for voting in the wrong precinct.
Sometimes things happen and they don't make the headlines!
Of course, all the rumors that H Bush used his CIA connections to bring in the drugs to sell on the streets of this country to fund the weapons for fighting against Iran, which may have been documented in the Iran-Contra Report - was burried by W Bush soon after he took office. It was about time for it to become public knowledge. I heard he extended the privacy limit till all people mentioned are dead, or something like that.
Of course, this is pretty much supposition ......
lore: pretty much supposition
So are deaths that Quincy coroners deem suicides, despite there being multiple shots to the head, as was the case with some who made the allegations, or claimed to have proof of those suppositions.
Also, rense, watson and tarpley have connected quite a few dots that make refuting those suppositions extremely difficult for critical thinkers. Of course facts never get in the way of those who, having achieved EMPIRE stature, define their own reality.
Some actually believe their manufactured MAGIC BULLET mythology to date, regardless of evidence of brain swapping and image tampering. In Specter's case we are expected to buy his sincerity and swallow it whole, just like the USA PATRIOT Act renewal clause excluding US Attorneys from confirmation hearings that was a conspiracy from which he was absent.

Your exclusive sneak preview is now available. http://www.hd.net/drr227.html
Per KING GEORGE's wavers for FISA allowing PRIVATE databases to be maintained and mined by companies like CHOICEPOINT, MASTERCARD, et. al., notwithstanding NSA in perpetuity per COINTELPRO dossiers / KGB files, may PI's gather the ID INFO of all the BLACK BOX DRE proponents so those guilty of TREASON via subverting constitutional voting rights may be filtered out of government positions, as is the case for Scooter Libby whose LAW LICENSE has been REVOKED?
Libby is a TRAITOR, RIGHT? He has been held ACCOUNTABLE, RIGHT?
What about the parties guilty for STEALING elections since DRE's have been in place? What about the proponents of CAGING LISTS, etc.? Should they be untouchable as Rove appears to be for US ATTORNEY TAMPERING - OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE plus PLAMEGATE?
THERE IS NO JUSTICE IN THE US when it comes to ARISTOCRATS & PLUTOCRATS.
YOU HAVE NO RIGHTS!!!

Governor Richards if you knew her staff is dominated by lesbians
BTW:
Another Democrat, Anne Richards, occupied the governor's mansion, but Rove was promoting another Republican candidate, George W Bush. Governor Richards' advisers laughed openly at the challenge, but they were in for a shock. "We did not believe that Bush would be as disciplined as he was. He was extremely disciplined," recalls George Shipley, who was then Richards' campaign adviser. "Karl gave him 10 index cards and said, 'This is what you are going to say. Don't confuse yourself with the issues.' It's the model for the presidency."
In its last days, the 1994 campaign also turned nasty. Texan voters began receiving calls from "pollsters" asking questions such as: "Would you be more or less likely to vote for Governor Richards if you knew her staff is dominated by lesbians?" In the business, it is called "push-polling" and Shipley has no doubt who was behind it."Rove has used this kind of dirty tricks in every campaign he's ever run."

Karl Rove
If Karl Rove is "Bush's Brain", then doesn't that mean that George W. Bush has officially LOST HIS MIND.

Max Blumenthal: What about the PROTOCOL OF ZION?
MAD MAX HEADROOM ... COME BACK, WE'RE NOT DONE WITH YOU YET ...
You keep asking the same question, why? Because you don't like the same answer?
Why aren't the DEMS going ballistic over FISA, HABEAS CORPUS, POSSE COMITATUS, PD-51, etc.?
Because they want the power when they are in control. The nature of the leadership is to perpetuate their incumbency until they can capitalize on their contacts so when they leave office they have enough leverage to join the insiders that run the FEDERAL RESERVE BANK and the Carlyle Group.
DUHHHHHHH!!!
Why does so much pork go into projects proxy to their personal real estate? Bridge to NOWHERE, ... Hastert's deal, etc ...
Are you playing DUMB for a reason, or have you yet to understand the nature of our "ALTRUISTIC" robber baron plutocracy that has morphed into a NEO-FEUDAL PROTO-FASCIST CORPORATOCRACY based on IRON TRIANGLE IMPERIALISM?
New Testament "sword" quote
The "sword" quote Thom referred to is from Matthew 10:34-39:
"Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I came to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; and a man’s enemies will be the members of his household. He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; and he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. He who has found his life will lose it, and he who has lost his life for My sake will find it."
The context of this quote is Jesus' instructions to his disciples out to minister to the "lost sheep of Israel". The "sword" here is not a physical weapon but rather a metaphor of struggle a person may endure by conversion to Christ including strained family relationships.

Evangelicals In The Air Force Academy And Meeting Tom Delay
About 6 months ago, I shook hands with the Bug Man Tom Delay in the lobby of a former Air America sponsor, the Jewish newspaper, The Forward.
Ugh.
Wrote about the disgusting and unfortunate encounter here.
So I have no doubt he's doing something with the Isreal Lobby.
Having the Air Force Academy and the enlisted ranks being infiltrated by the Evangelicals scares me to death.
What do you find more frightening?
A group of 19 hijackers with limited flight training?
Or, a Fundamentalist Christian, Air Force Academy trained, crew at the helm of a Stealth B-2 bomber, armed with live nuclear weapons, that believe that they're on a 'Mission From God'?
Unlike the 9/11 homiciders they won't have to hijack the plane, or worry about the air traffic controllers, because they too, the entire Chain of Command are Fundamentalist Christians and therefore are all on the same team and believe in the mission.
How much do you want to bet that they'd do a lot more damage than those 19 retards did if they had a chance to act on their faith in "God"?
And just happened to be assigned to fly over Megiddo, Turkey, the site of Armageddon in The Book Of Revelation.
Be a real bad movie if it happened in real life if a bunch of delusional religious freaks got in their heads that they *had* to do this because it was 'God's Will.'
Here's artist Patrick Farley's rendering of what it would look like.
That full chapter is here and this is the begining of Patrick Farley's Apacomon The Book of Revelation written as a Japanese Manga Comic.

"There aren't a lot of thing in this world that one can be sure of, but I do know this; anytime you go by a church that's filled to the rafters with people you can be sure that the vast majority of them haven't read The Bible, because if they had, that church would be nearly empty."

Ron Paul
Beyond his libertarian trappings, Ron Paul has some pretty unsavory stuff in his past. In the 1990's Ron Paul published a monthly newsletter called Ron Paul Political Report (later renamed to Ron Paul Survival Report to capitalize on the Militia/Survivalist movement). This newsletter contained some fairly racist statements. Here are a couple of examples:
"Opinion polls consistently show that only about 5 percent of blacks have sensible political opinions, i.e. support the free market, individual liberty and the end of welfare and affirmative action,"
"Given the inefficiencies of what D.C. laughingly calls the `criminal justice system,' I think we can safely assume that 95 percent of the black males in that city are semi-criminal or entirely criminal,"
"...our country is being destroyed by a group of actual and potential terrorists -- and they can be identified by the color of their skin."
The late Texas Congresswoman Barbara Jordan was called a "moron" and a "fraud" whose accomplishments depended on her race and sex.
David Neiwert and his fellow bloggers over at Orcinus have done a terrific job unearthing Ron Paul's unsavory racist past. http://dneiwert.blogspot.com/2007/06/ron-paul-vs-new-world-order.html

ku klux kristians
I emphathize with those people who consider themselves Christian, and are angry with radical religious right for distorting the meanings in the Bible. I have coined this phrase, "ku klux kristians" when I am speaking about the radical religious right. I'm hoping it will catch on.

The real, high-tech danger of sudden, large-scale voting fraud
Something I heard from Dan Rather, and chatted about today, bears repeating now on AA. The Republicans who build software for paperless voting stations, may have created codes or keys which access or break through layers of security within each device, access and alter private areas within containing public voting counts, and replace the holes in storage with clean bytes, and with control of the 'little' cpu, it then may be able to erase tracks of the crime. The danger is of a centralized data base of these illegal keys, for some terrible future national scandal. The next Republican who gets in illegally, may be worse than President Bush!
